Chuck Schuldiner and his band DEATH were instrumental in the creation of the genre of death metal. Back in the early ‘80s, Chuck was taking his band Death to the highest level possible along with metal pioneers Possessed, Venom and others. At this time, death metal had a horrible reputation and became notorious for satanism, which caused huge obstacles for DEATH. However, Chuck and DEATH represent perseverance. They quickly broke free from the controversy and signed with Combat records. Death went on to become one of the top death-metal bands in the world, playing and recording with some of the best metal musicians in the business. DEATH had released many successful albums until the untimely passing of Chuck in 2001, maintaining their popularity and following for over 15 years through the many break-ups, label changes and atrocities that seem to have plagued the band.
